This Christmas… I Am Thankful

It’s the time for lovers and lonely hearts.
It’s a month that can go both ways…
When the snow on the ground can remind you of the cold that wells in your heart,
or the warmth that will soon embrace you in your lover’s arms.
It’s an ending when you finally pick up the pieces of your broken heart
and close the chapter to start a new one.”

Christmas and New Year gets me down sometimes,
mainly because it’s times like these
people I know usually have a special someone to spend it with,
or Christmas parties are happening, and I would be the last to be invited
(another night in on my own – cheers).

This year isn’t really any different, as much as I pretend that it is.
There are a lot of things I wish could be different,
but I need to remember that I have so much more
than what a lot of people have this Christmas,
and for that, I am very thankful.

I’m thankful for the fact that I am warm, sheltered, and hydrated.

I’m thankful for…

The roof over my head;

Food to eat;

Running water;

Clothes to wear;

A job;

My family;
(a very dysfunctional one, but a family nonetheless).

I am thankful for being healthy and alive.

These are the luxuries which I know countless people are going without
all year round.

No matter how low and hateful I sometimes feel towards life,

I know that I am extremely lucky.

This Christmas,
I am thankful.

Merry Christmas =)

My heart goes out to those who are alone this Christmas;
To those who are grieving;
To those who are struggling to make ends meet;
To those without shelter and warmth;
To those who have had the worst year
and are doubtful they can survive another one;
To those who are close to giving up…
My thoughts are with them this Christmas.

“In the final month, December,
we often find magic in other people, places and things.
As the year comes to an end,
open your heart and embrace whatever may come your way.
Decide what you love and what you want to leave behind –
as you prepare to embark on a new year of life.”

  1. Such a lovely post, and very positive in finding the sparkle among the pain. I tried to remind myself of such things like you’ve mentioned that I’m thankful for too. I hope you had a lovely Christmas! x

  2. A post filled with gratitude. I am grateful for all these and also for a functional body that is capable of taking care of itself. Many don’t have that!!
    Merry Christmas !!

  4. Actually I was glad to stay in, guess I felt a little lazy that day! Plus I had Stouffer’s do the cooking for me! They make a pretty good meatloaf. Mashed potatoes and corn too!

  5. It sounds like it was a good idea to stay in! We stayed in too. I was really hoping for a white Christmas, but as ever, the weather disappointed. I hope cooking went well without any dramas? πŸ˜‰

  6. You’re so welcome! Mine was uneventful, stayed home and cooked. Our weather in Ohio was horrible! Had to stay in, but I didn’t mind one bit! Be safe on the road if you go out there!
